Boost Your Brand with Eye-Catching Exterior Signs

Your exterior sign is usually the first — and sometimes only — chance you get to make an impression on someone driving by. It has a few seconds to say who you are, where to turn in, and whether you’re worth stopping for. Here’s a look at the exterior sign types we build most often, and where each one earns its keep.

Types of Exterior Signage

1. Channel Letter Signs

Channel letter signs are three-dimensional, individually built letters — usually illuminated — that make your business name the sign itself, no background panel needed. They read clearly day and night and can be built in almost any font, color, or lighting style to match your brand.

2. Monument Signs

Monument signs sit at ground level near your entrance and are often the most substantial-looking sign on a property. Built from stone, brick, metal, or a combination, they give a business a permanent, established feel that a pole sign or banner can’t match.

3. Pylon & Pole Signs

When a business sits back from a busy road or highway, elevation matters more than anything else. Pylon and pole signs put your name or logo up high enough to catch attention from a distance — pylons often carry several tenants on one structure, while a pole sign is typically dedicated to a single business.

4. Dimensional Lettering

Dimensional letters mount directly to your building’s facade, adding real depth and shadow instead of a flat printed surface. Metal, acrylic, and wood are all common choices, and the effect reads as more custom and more permanent than a painted or vinyl sign.

5. Blade & Projecting Signs

Blade signs mount perpendicular to the building and stick out over the sidewalk, which makes them the sign pedestrians actually see — especially in a downtown or historic district where storefronts sit close together. They can be shaped, lit, or styled to match a specific brand personality.

6. Building Signs & Wall-Mounted Signs

The simplest and most traditional option: your logo or name mounted flat to the building itself. Done well, a wall-mounted sign is durable, highly visible from a distance, and often the anchor piece the rest of your exterior signage builds around.

The Bottom Line

Exterior signage isn’t just decoration — it’s how most customers find you the first time. We’ll help you figure out which of these makes sense for your building, your budget, and your traffic, and build it to actually hold up outside.
